Miranda “Obelia #7” Goodwin, founding sister of our Kappa Associate Chapter and former National Board member, shares more about Nikki:

Nikki was so full of life. DXP was her pride and she wore her letters EVERY day, no matter what.  She lived and breathed DXP.  She had dreams of creating a career in sports medicine and thrived in competitive situations, never losing her cool.  She would float through a room embracing everyone.

Nikki upheld the pillars of DXP to the letter.  She was an unfaltering friend, always there when you needed her.  She was a true leader and sister in every essence of the word.  Our campus was not accepting of us as a sorority, mostly because of racial issues and a lack of understanding which is why she wanted to be in a multicultural sorority.  The more other orgs, administration, and staff tried to pull us down the hard we fought. She was a strong foundation and face for our chapter.

We wanted to create the scholarship in her honor because she was so dedicated to both our sorority and to her education.  Nikki also worked hard.  She wanted to overcome obstacles and help others.  We thought this would be the perfect way to honor her memory by helping sisters both financially to pay for a small part of their education as well as encouraging them to continue following their dreams even if they do face obstacles.
