Ambrosia joined the National Board in August of 2015 as an Alumnae Liaison. Over the last year, she has worked to both create more opportunities for alumnae involvement and interaction as well as collaborating with the entire board to help support our growth and stability as an organization. Her earnest passion for Delta Xi Phi has brought her to another term, this time as our West Regional Advisor. As a member of the Mu Associate Chapter at UC Davis, Ambrosia is excited to work closely with our chapters on the west coast. We know that Ambrosia will be a wonderful resource and ally for the western region as they continue to flourish and expand!

1.) What are you most excited about for this term?
I am most excited for two items: to see an Active Climate Survey be implemented for the first time and to be West Regional RA!

Developing such an expansive project is definitely going to allow the National Board, and our Chapter Leadership, identify the needs of our Membership, and to get quality feedback on the diverse experiences of the Sisterhood.

As for being the West RA for the next two years – boy do I have my work cut out for me! Ha-ha-ha! JK! But I am excited to help support my home Chapter Region, especially with the addition of Alpha Alpha Chapter at UC Berkeley, and anticipating the Colony at WSU! The West is growing and I’m so proud and excited to support the Members prosper for the next two years.

2.) What are your goals for your position?
I have two big goals for my term: to establish the use of ‘data’ reports and provide training / support for Chapter Growth/Stability. Implementing a Regional Climate Survey will allow Chapters to confidentially express the wants and needs for their unique campuses, as well as offer feedback to the Chapter leadership and myself. And, regarding Chapter Growth, providing resources for diverse recruitment tactics, organizational tips, and effective communication, etc., is a priority of mine. I want to help empower the Chapter memberships further and support the continuation of successes.

3.) What was your favorite time or memory from being an active?
My favorite memory: it was the middle of Finals week, and I had been experiencing a lot of personal struggles, while balancing school and the Chapter. I was at home working on a Film Final Paper, and my Chapter Sisters showed up to my apartment, as a surprise, with a full cake of corn bread (my favorite!) to show their appreciation and thanks for all the hard work I had been doing. It was a complete surprise – I cried – and ate it gleefully. That show of love, and surprise, still brings smiles to my face (I have the note they signed pinned up in my room).

4.) What do you most enjoy about your city? Your job/career?
That I’m close to my family and best friends. After being away from them for 3 years, it feels amazing to be able to see them every week.  I try to take advantage of being so close and see them whenever possible. Being close to them all brings a lot of joy to my life (Shout out to Dad, Mom, Melody, Penny, Bryan and Gio!).

I’m currently working for LAUSD in the hiring department, but will start as a Substitute Teacher in a month! I enjoy working for the School District since I will apply to graduate programs to establish a Career in Educational Policy reform; so I can earn money while I do something I love!

5.) Any advice for our current active sisters?
If you are a Transfer Student: take an extra year if you can afford to (financially and mentally). Don’t rush through 2 years to get a degree, being at a University is a great experience – take advantage of everything!

If you are not a Transfer Student: take advantage of everything! Apply for every research position you want, try a random art/media class, join a club different to your interests, study abroad! There is so much open to you right now, take the chances now before you have to start working full-time!

6.) What do you enjoy outside of work and the sorority?
I started running a few years ago, and never thought I would enjoy it, but I love it! I run an IG account tracking my effort to increase my activity and health (IG:active_ambrosia). I play Dungeons and Dragons weekly with my best friends, and have been doing so for the past year! And tied for 3rd:my passion for movies, TV shows, music, and art. I could go on, but those are my top three!

7.) In closing, what else should we know about you?
East Side Story Music Collection is a staple in my life. I listen to at least one of the Volumes every week. And my favorite bands are the Beatles and Led Zeppelin.
