National Board Spotlight!
Vicki is in her 6th term on the National Board (10th year), and is excited to be serving again as National President. Prior to this term Vicki served as Chief Tribunal (2012-2014), National President (2008-2012), Vice President of Membership (2006-2008), Expansion Chair (2006-2008), and East Regional Advisor (2005-2006).
With all her involvement in Delta Xi Phi, Vicki has quite a few memories that stand out as part of her experience.
“As an active I think initiation & founding our chapter is probably most memorable,” she says…. “but that’s pretty typical for most of us [founder’s] I think.” To no surprise, Vicki is a founding sister of the DXP Lambda Chapter which was established in June 2003 at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD.
“Crossing our Beta line was a great moment for us,” she adds, stating that allowed Lambda to feel like they were finally moving forward with the organization.
Vicki graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2005 with degrees in Chemistry and Neuroscience. Shortly thereafter she joined the board and went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Genetics in 2010 as well as a MD in 2012.
Vicki’s favorite Delta Xi Phi memories extend into her time as a Delta Xi Phi alumna.
“As an alum the things that stand out are generally trips with sisters – expansion, chapter visits, convention, retreats & campus presentations,” all of which Vicki has been able to be involved in as a National Board member.
Vicki’s goals this year for the National Board include generating more enthusiasm and a sense of purpose within the board, with the hope that energy will trickle down to the associate/chapters as well.
“I’d like to see the sorority grow – more actives, more chapters, revitalized expansion and a full enthusiastic national board,” she describes.
Aside from numbers and participation, Vicki would like to see Delta Xi Phi growth include programming for actives and alumnae as well as more frequently updated national documents (constitution, bylaws, rituals, manuals, history book, etc.).
“I’m excited to try some strategic planning with the board this year,” she explains, “and overall I just hope to catalyze forward progress with the sorority as a whole.”
In her personal life, Vicki works for the University Hospitals of Cleveland as a family medicine resident and currently resides in Cleveland, Ohio.
“I think Cleveland is great minus the weather. It has all of the things I would want out of a city – orchestra, theater, museums, dining, sports – and still has the small towns, farms and beaches a short drive away.”
Vicki looks forward to sharing Cleveland with the board as she will host the 2014 National Board meeting next weekend at her home, where the board will share updates, discuss upcoming projects for the sorority, and begin to plan the 2015 National Convention held in Atlanta, GA.
Overall, Vicki is thrilled to be serving as National President for the 2014-2016 term and looks forward to the continued growth and success of Delta Xi Phi Multicultural Sorority, Inc. Vicki can be reached via e-mail at email@example.com!
