The 13th annual Delta Xi Phi Annual Convention is around the corner. In about two months, DXP sisters from across the nation will converge in Columbus, Ohio. The National Convention will be held the last weekend of July from the 28th to the 31st.
Just like last year, convention will be hosted primarily by the National Board. This year however, DXP sisters will be attending meetings and staying at the Ohio State University campus, instead of a non-campus location.
“It was determined that we should stay on campus and work with Phi [Chapter] to get meeting rooms at the Ohio State Union,” says Diane Abundabar, Beta Alumni, “It was also determined that housing on campus is the more convenient and price effective option for sisters, even though it’s not as comfortable as a hotel. [The National Board] wanted to keep costs to sisters to a minimum.”
Programming for the convention primarily is centered on necessary workshops and officer trainings as in years past. The National Board keeps evolving programs at each convention hoping to make them more helpful to sisters or giving choices between certain workshops for sisters who have come to convention before.
One goal for sisters each year, is to make connections with sisters from other chapters, to share ideas, share experiences, and just make new friends with someone who may live in a different timezone. While sisters do have some free time to mingle with each other, the National Board is planning an event for some quality sister time.
“Similar to last year, we’re adding options to our risk management and recruitment workshops so people that have attended training in the past aren’t sitting through the same presentations a second time,” says Vicki Nelson, National President, “We’ve also added a sister mixer/social Friday evening that is casual mingling and entertainment (with food!) to help provide an opportunity for sisters to make connections.”
Brittany Savko, recent Phi alumni, is a convention liaison to the National Board for the Ohio State/Columbus area. Savko (and the Phi Chapter) has been helping the board with organizing logistics on campus as well as helping with creative planning as well, like coming up with the “OH! The Places We’ll Go!” convention theme.
“It’s been great planning convention! I have really enjoyed being involved on a national level and staying involved as a recent alum,” she says, “Ohio State has some really great resources that we will benefit from and I’m glad to help bring these resources to DXP’s National Convention this summer.”
